Carruthersisms
O.K. So I have been thinking about our family and how words or saying have become a part of our vocabulary. ie. Shumpins or Jumpins, Barrel of Laughs, etc.
No I am curious as to what are some of your favourite Carruthersisms from our family and what are some new ones from your families.

Common Sense
The philosophy of common sense has been something I've heard about all my life and for some reason I've been thinking about it alot, trying to figure it out. And I must say it's is not a simple task. I guess the best way to explain it is that there is a wealth of knowledge that all people simply ought to know, yet (alas!) there are those fools that are all around us who simply "don't get it." For those of us who have this magical knowledge, the level of shock and disgust we express when encountered by the baffling stupidity of fools "out there" is directly proportional to the amount of common sense we have.
Now the scope of this philosophy is uncertain at best--it can range anywhere from not touching a hot stove twice to knowing how to do an oil change. It's also hard to tell what is deemed "common sense" by whom. I hate to admit this considering that anyone reading this may consider the above information common sense and find out that I'm a fool. Yet there is one truth about common sense that I can say I know for sure: it really feels good. Allow me to illustrate...
I once heard a man tell of when he got very angry. There was an open cupboard door and he punched it shut out of anger. Of course, the cupboard door bounced right back and hit him in the head. (I'm sure you're as shocked nd disgusted as I am. Plain ol' common sense could tell you that would happen!!) He even had a bandage on his head from the ordeal. Now after hearing this story, if you take a moment right now and look away from the computer screen, shake your head (not sure what that's supposed to mean, but do it anyway) and either say, "Tsk tsk," or utter the statement in italics above.
See?! What did I tell you? Doesn't that feel great?
I suppose we could instead say, "Poor guy. I know how that feels. I've done stupid things before too." I suppose we could admit to times of weakness and give him a break. And maybe in other situations, like seeing someone misusing a tool, we could say something like, "We all make mistakes. I'm sure they don't even realize what they're doing... perhaps there's a chance they were never taught."
I suppose we could...
Naaaah! Let's keep calling people morons!
