Philthy McNasty's Take Tournament
Matt's team played in a tournament this weekend. They played the first two team which were from Burlington as well and then they faced Barrie to finish their three game round robin. Against Barrie they played and lost 4 - 2. Although they lost to Barrie, they still finished second advancing to the finals, which would be Barrie.
On Sunday afternoon, after a scoreless first period, Matt's team scored to take the lead and never gave it up. They won 3 - 2.

Thank you for the great gift
I meant to do this up shortly after the trip, my apologies for my tardiness.
Do you remember the time that you were surprised at Christmas time?
Well, I have a tale that you might enjoy, please don’t get annoyed with the rhyme.
It was the eve before Santa was to drop off his gifts
This is my favourite night, everyone is happy, there are no rifts.
However, as I placed the gifts around the tree,
There was a gift I was curious about, it was something I wanted to see.
It was a gift from Murray Street, and we started by Matt unwrapping with gift one,
It was a game Apples to Apples, who would be the person who would won.
The second was a gift unwrapped by Shari that I knew very well from days of old,
It was a square box with packaging of gold.
Although, no one else got it, I laughed and laughed,
Why it was a pizza in a box from none other than Kraft.
The third gift was unwrapped by me
And was wondering what could it be.
It was small, in an envelope size,
From the game and pizza, Dukes of Hazzard DVD would be my decision of wise.
It was a letter, from Troy, also known as my brother,
Make your way to Boston…..and oh mother….
I could not believe it, he had tickets from ticketmaster who would sell,
And who knew it, and Jenn and Lisa were to come as well.
On March 3rd, we shall go to a game
Against the Habs and the Bruins, it would not be tame.
It would be fun, and we would all have a ball,
If I couldn’t make it, I would drive, walk or crawl.
It was the night before I would fly out,
It would be Ryan’s birthday, and there was snow about.
I tried to fly, but there was no flyin’
And because of the snow, there was no concert for Ryan.
It would be the next day that I would take flight,
There would be no snow, there would be no frost bite.
It would be a Friday where I flew with Westjet,
Picked up by Mom and Dad, and drove to Sussex and all the others I met.
Although, it was snowing that night,
We left for Fredericton and we were on our way with barely any sight.
We landed at our grandparents safe and sound,
And in the morning, we tried to leave quickly to make some ground.
We left after a large breakfast, with the GPS for us to see,
All of us with passports, except for Lisa who wasn’t happy with her ID.
It was a long drive, but none of us mind,
Except for those stupid tolls that put us in a petty cash bind.
We got to Boston with ease
And the hotel was full of Quebec Hab fans, some of us were not pleased.
It was a couple of hours until game time,
We took off quickly and yes, I know this story is full of rhyme.
We were dropped off by the shuttle at the airport,
We were all anxious to attend the greatest of all “this sport”.
It was a quick subway ride, one or two stops,
We got to a the city center and was lost, we had to ask the cops.
However, all wasn’t lost, we got to see some cool statues,
And more fans from Montreal, that had no virtues.
Then all of a sudden, there it was, the TD Northbank garden where the Bruins play,
In the gift shop we were jammed in, kind of like sardines they would say.
We sat at our seats, after escalator after escalator,
Where the bleeeeep, was that darn elevator.
We found our seats and enjoyed the view,
We watched the Bruins warm up as well as the blanc, rouge et bleu.
As the game started, we all yelled and cheerd,
Even though we were the minority and routed for the Bruins which was weird.
Except for Jenn, she thought she should cheer for the Canadiens for the sake of dad,
We knew that she was done for, their singing was bad.
In the end it was 3 – 1 for the team that was from Bean Town,
I was happier than the other three, I had a smile not a frown.
Then it was back to the hotel, via the shuttle and subway,
Then all of a sudden it was Jenn taking on the Hispanics at B K.
We left Massachusetts with all of our bellies a full of bacon, pancakes and omelet,
Then we arrived to the Christmas Tree Store, which made Lisa vomit.
Also it was a quick trip to Fenway, the home of the Red Sox
Jenn wanting pictures of statutes and herself, these guys now live in a box.
It was back on the road that we ended up and miles we were axes,
We had to come up to Customs and claim our duties and taxes.
It was a great trip, I enjoyed it very much,
There was plenty of talk of doing it again and such.
I want to say thank you to Troy for the inviting me out,
And Lisa and Jenn for coming without any doubt.

You never know what comes across your pass
When we were walking towards the arena, we passed by a memorial to the Holocaust. It seemed odd that a city such as Boston would have such a monument, however, it took me by surprise. I went on line to see what it was about. I copied two paragraphs and there is a quote down below that I thought was an amazing statement.
The New England Holocaust Memorial was built to foster memory of and reflection on one of the great tragedies of our time, the Holocaust (Shoah). The effort was begun by a group of survivors of Nazi concentration camps who have found new homes and new lives in the Boston area. Dedicated in October, 1995, over 3000 individuals and organizations from across the community joined in sponsoring the project.
The design utilizes uniquely powerful symbols of the Holocaust. The Memorial features six luminous glass towers, each 54 feet high. The towers are lit internally to gleam at night. They are set on a black granite path, each one over a dark chamber which carries the name of one of the principal Nazi death camps. Smoke rises from charred embers at the bottom of these chambers. Six million numbers are etched in glass in an orderly pattern, suggesting the infamous tattooed numbers and ghostly ledgers of the Nazi bureaucracy. Evocative and rich in metaphor, the six towers recall the six main death camps, the six million Jews who died, or a menorah of memorial candles.
There was a quote by Lutheran Pastor Martin Niemoeller that is engraved in one of the stones at the site, I wish I saw it that night.
When the Nazis came for the communists,I remained silent;I was not a communist.
When they locked up the social democrats,I remained silent;I was not a social democrat.
When they came for the trade unionists,I did not speak out;I was not a trade unionist.
When they came for me,there was no one left to speak out.

"That night in Boston..."
Thanks to all of you for such a great weekend. I knew it would be. As expected the hours spent in the car were as much a highlight as the game itself. Chatting about family between St. Stephen and Sussex was especially cool. There were things shared that I didn't know or realize (or remember), which helped me a learn a little bit more about my family and about myself. There were even things each of you shared about yourself that I didn't know/realize/remember. I've been thinking a lot since we got back and I can't get over the value of knowing where you've come from and with whom you belong.
A big thanks to Ryan for the CD's. They were done so well! I think back to all those "various tapes" I used to make and Ryan's works of art were better than any of them. If I didn't know any better I would think my nephew is a Gen-exer. Also, all joking aside, thanks for covering for me when we were in "cash only" situations. I tend to be hard on myself when I forget things like that, but you guys helped make it a minor issue.
I love how we are very intentional about not only getting together but also doing memorable things together.
We'll definitely have to do this again. Jamie mentioned Montreal. Not a bad idea--there are great churches and cathedrals there!
